Worth knowing first
Censoring words
Instagram and TikTok quietly limit posts carrying certain words. Censoring keeps the reach
without changing what we say. Do it in on-screen text, captions and subtitles —
all three get scanned.

How: swap the vowel for an asterisk. Asterisks only — no 3 for e, no 4 for a.

A note on music
A claim can mute or pull a post, usually once the work is finished. Worth checking a
track is cleared before you build around it.
Colour
On-screen type is white or Tickled Pink — whichever reads better against the lighting.
The fonts we usually use
For your reference — this is what our work is normally set in. The sizes below are what goes on screen, at their real size relative to each other.

Helvetica
The safe default. Everything in the edit. Already on your machine, and Instagram’s own font.
Already on your Mac — nothing to install
If you are unsure, use Helvetica. PP Editorial New is a paid typeface, so only
reach for it where we have asked for it.

Apps cover the edges of a 9:16 frame. Keep anything that needs reading in the middle.

The rule
Type lives in the middle
Headers, captions and the logo sit inside the safe zone. Footage can fill the whole frame.
When unsure
Pull it in
Cut-offs move between apps and phones, so tighter is safer.

Rules
Do
- Find the track before you cut. The music tends to decide where the cuts land.
- Cut on movement.
Don’t
- Cutting off the beat. If the edit is not riding the track, it shows.
- Making the rough footage match the clean footage — they are meant to look different.
